We will have social gathering on Thursday @ 6 pm in TSU underground. We will join NSM-ICC for bowling, pool, and table tennis. Food will be served but there is $5 charge for it.

NSM-Inter Club Council Nominations

Please be aware that the elections for the Natural Sciences and Mathematics-InterClub Council officers is coming up. Have your nominations by this Friday May 8th.

Actual date of election will be on Friday May 15th at 8:00 a.m. in MH-488. If you know anyone that is interested or would like to nominate a student, please let me know.

The following positions are available:

Chair: Preside at all meetings of the organization. S/he is the spokesperson of the organization, representing the policies, vies, and opinions of the organization.

Vice-chair (Director of Finance): Preside at all meetings of the organization. S/he will handle the financial affairs of the association, including disbursement of funds, and preparing the association budget.

Director of Administration: Prepares the weekly agendas and minutes. Keeps contact with ICC representatives and update them if need be.

If you are interested contact one of the club officers.

Natural Sciences and Mathematics 6th Annual Symposium

The Natural Sciences and Mathematics Symposium 2009 will be on Tuesday April 14 and Wednesday April 15th. Tuesday April 14th will consist of three speakers; Dr. Filowitz, Dr. Hans, and Dr. Knott who will talk about Alternative Energy: Fact or Fiction.

The Location will be in the TSU Pavillion ABC starting at 10:00 a.m. and will last until 1:15 p.m.

Wednesday April 15th will be the Career Day along with the Student poster presentations.

Be there to support NSM!

There will be food.

Cal State Fullerton’s Area code changing from 714 to 657

Our School is changing their area code from 714 to 657

Instead of dialing 714-278-extension you will have to dial 657-278-extension.

1. If I am calling the Fullerton campus, what should I dial to reach a Fullerton campus number?

a. Dial 1-657-278 plus the current 4-digit extension to reach a Fullerton campus number.

2. What will happen if I forget to dial 1-657-278 plus the 4-digit extension?

a. You will hear a message stating the number you dialed is no longer in service for the majority of our campus telephone numbers. However, there are around 200 campus numbers that were considered critical numbers and callers to those old 714 numbers will hear a message informing them the area code has changed and to hang up and redial the number using 657.

Note: Remember to inform your family, friends, and emergency contacts to update their records, too.

First Chem Club Meeting

Hi everybody,
Hope everybody is having a good start on their semester. After counting your votes and taking suggestions, we decided to have the first meeting on Thursday, February 5^th at 12 pm in our club room MH 500A. During the meeting we will be electing our next treasurer. To run for treasurer, you need to be a member of the club, have paid the membership due, and be able to be active in most club affairs. We will also have food and treats for you during the meeting. If you are interested in joining the club this semester, stop by the MH-500A and please fill out the application and pay a cheap membership due of $5. If you have any question, please email us back.

Special Election: Treasurer Position

Welcome back!!! We hope everyone had a nice vacation. Now that we are back we decided to have our first club meeting next week. We want to accommodate everybody’s schedules so we want your opinion to either have the meeting on Wed, Feb 4th at 12 pm or Thurs, Feb 5th at 11:30 am. In this meeting, we will be electing a new treasurer. To run for treasurer, you need to be a member of the club, paid the membership due, and be able to be active in most club affairs. Parking Permit fee increase

At this point all most all of you have signed up for next semester’s classes. Many of you might have noticed that the parking permit fee have increase from $150 to $170. This is to fund the new parking structure (replacing parking lot E) construction beginning next semester (Spring ’09). The news gets even worse. Due to the construction of the new parking structure the school will close about 2000 parking spaces in parking lot E, which means fighting for a parking spot will get even harder. If you are not graduating in May ’09 you will see the price for parking permit jump to $230 in Fall ’09.
However, there is good news. School is scrambling to get Valet parking services to help the students. They are also thinking about having off campus parking where the school will provide shuttles from the off campus parking to the campus for free of charge. Details are sketchy at this time.

Meet with Dr. Imke Schroder, UCLA Dept Microbiology and Molecular Genetics

Dr. Mikiko Matsui has asked Dr. Imke Schroder, UCLA Dept Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, to sit down with students in round table conference to allow students to ask Dr. Imke Schroder questions about UCLA graduate School (specifically what sort of students they are looking for and what are the necessary qualifications to get accepted into UCLA).

Dr. Schroder will be on campus on Thursday November 6th, 3:10-3:45pm to meet with students in MH 584 (Chem Conf Room).

At 4:00 pm she will have a seminar presentation (“Catching a Breath: Adaptation of Respiratory Pathways by Bordetella Brochiseptica”) in room MH-238.

Please let Dr.Mikiko (DBH-145) know if you would like to meet with Dr. Schroder next Thursday.
